Eligibility
Currently enrolled students and students scheduled to return from a leave of absence who are in their second year or above, including fourth-year students, and who have earned the required number of credits specified below

Approval of Change of Major
A change of major is approved by the President after review by the receiving department, division, or major.
Restrictions
Transfer students are not eligible to change their major.
Notes
- A change of major within the same admission unit may be approved beginning in the second semester of the second year.
- A change of major between daytime and evening programs, or between daytime and evening courses, may be approved only when a vacancy is available.
- Students admitted through special transfer admission may change their major once within the same college.
- The College of Engineering, the College of Information Technology, the Division of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Division of Urban Architecture within the College of Urban Science, and the Division of Bioengineering within the College of Life Sciences and Bioengineering are regarded as belonging to the same college.
- A change of major is not permitted during the first semester following special transfer admission.
- A change of major may be approved only once during a student’s enrollment.
Major Assignment
- Students admitted to an academic field or division are assigned to a department or major at the end of the first year, within the enrollment quota established for each department or major.
- At the end of the first year, students submit an application for major assignment through the Integrated Information System. The dean then assigns the major.
