MOU signed between Incheon National University and the president of St. John's University

An MOU was signed between Park Jong-tae, president of Incheon National University, and Nora Demleitner, president of St. John's University. Through this, it is expected that teacher and student exchanges between the two universities will be activated in classical and prestigious (GB)-based education.

At the MOU signing ceremony held at Incheon National University on the 29th, President Park Jong-tae said, "I sympathize with the importance of classics linking the past and the future, and expressed the expectation that the educational solidarity of the two universities, which have joined hands beyond education, will be a light of hope in uncertain and difficult global situations and lead the world to a better place."

Incheon University's GB program was launched in 2019 based on the GB-based discussion seminar at St. John's University, and is being applied and developed in accordance with the Korean situation. In 2022, the Great Books Center will be established in the Haksan Library to systematically operate the curriculum, comparison, and GB programs, and it is also contributing to community education contributions to middle and high schools and citizens beyond universities. Furthermore, the Korean GB program, which started at Incheon National University, is now expanding through educational solidarity with Chuncheon City, Chuncheon Office of Education, Kangwon National University, and Hallim University.

Comprehensive educational cooperation between Incheon National University and St. John's University was concluded at a comprehensive level last year through a visit to Incheon National University (December 05, 2023), by Professor Emily Langston, a senior advisor to the president of St. John's University, and this time, the MOU between the presidents of the two universities allowed teacher and student exchanges to be implemented in detail. Three St. John's University students are already participating in the internship program (May-July) at Incheon National University's Great Books Center, and in the second semester of this year, St. John's University's tutor (teacher) will run GB-related courses and comparative programs together at Incheon National University.

Meanwhile, St. John's University President Nora Demrightner stopped by the closing ceremony of the 3rd INU GB camp held (5/24-25) in Yeongjong-do, Incheon, on the day of her visit to Korea, and said, "It is surprising that St. John's University's discussion seminar model, which reads and discusses texts ranging from literature and philosophy to science, is also being conducted at Incheon National University by St. John's alumni (Professor Lee Yong-hwa, Department of English at Incheon National University), and expressed his encouragement, saying, "We hope to expand mutual exchange and cooperation between Incheon National University and St. John's University through Great Books."

It is expected that St. John's University's GB-based discussion seminar model, which began at Incheon National University, will provide educational alternatives as well as learning pleasure to Korean university education and primary and secondary education in the era of no majors, and further education for ordinary citizens.
